Erick Alban Ortiz
I have been passionate about tennis for over 18 years, dedicating myself to both the technical and mental aspects of the game. My journey in tennis has been marked by a series of significant milestones, including being honored as the captain of my university’s tennis team. Under my leadership, we achieved great success, claiming victories in both singles and doubles tournaments.
While I have always enjoyed the individual challenge of singles play, I consider myself a true doubles player. The synergy and strategic teamwork involved in doubles is what I truly thrive in. I am particularly drawn to playing at the net and the baseline, where I can showcase my versatility and tactical awareness. The fast-paced exchanges and the need for constant communication with a partner are what make doubles both exciting and rewarding for me.
Off the court, tennis has taught me valuable lessons in discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, which I apply to all aspects of my life. I continue to grow as a player and person, always striving to improve my skills and contribute to the sport in meaningful ways.
Speaking about my career as a tennis coach, I started at a young age—around 15 years old. I’m certified by Tennis Canada as well as by the tennis federation in my home country. I chose this path because my father, an outstanding coach himself, was my inspiration. He not only taught me the technical aspects of the game but also how to communicate effectively with players and manage challenging situations, including handling complaints from both players and parents.
As a tennis coach, I see myself as a guide, helping students gain a broader perspective on the sport. Tennis is more than just a game; it’s a discipline that fosters perseverance and mental toughness. These qualities extend beyond the court and help students grow into better individuals in life. My father once told me that when you begin teaching, you’ll never stop learning because every student is different. This advice has stayed with me and has shaped my approach to coaching.
I am patient and approachable, always striving to help my students improve their skills and address their weaknesses. In each session, I take the lead by demonstrating drills, ensuring that my students can imitate me and ultimately reach the goal of the exercise.
